2012 Parent Involvement and Technology Conference PDF Print E-mail

Don’t miss the 2012 Parent Involvement and Technology Conference.  This year’s conference will be held in Fargo at the Doublewood Inn on April 26th, 27th and 28th. Attend one or all days. Registration is FREE for all parents of children with special needs. Stipends are available for families who live at least an hour away from the Fargo area. Stipends cover the cost of a hotel room at state rates.  Featured Keynote speakers include George Sugai (Positive Behavior Supports), Janet DesGeorges and LeeAnn Seaver from the National Hands and Voices office (Implementing IEPs), Luis Perez (Assistive Technology) and Isaac Baldry (Youth Leadership).

This year, we've expanded our conference to offer two registration options: the Parent Involvement Track and – in a partnership with the Anne Carlsen Center – the Assistive Technology Track. These tracks each offer unique content and registration is separate, so it is important you read about what each track offers before making your decision.

The Parent Involvement Track includes novice and advanced information on parent involvement, early intervention and special education topics along with several sessions on assistive technology. This track is jointly hosted by Pathfinder Parent Center, North Dakota Department of Public Instruction, and North Dakota Dakota Department of Human Services - Part C.

The Assistive Technology Track includes technical hands-on information for participants who are looking for some of the latest resources on the use of assistive technology in schools. This track is hosted by the Anne Carlsen Center.

This conference is a great opportunity for parents, teachers, program managers, early interventionists, social workers, and administrators to learn more about technology, early intervention, and family support. Concurrent sessions will include information on technology, reading, transition, parent involvement, early intervention and much more. CEUs, Graduate and Social Work credit are pending. The block of rooms at the Doublewood are reserved only through March 27th, so we encourage you to register early.  Registration will open on or around February 1st.  To learn more about stipends, call toll free at 1.800.245.5840 or locally at 701.837.7500, or email us at info@pathfinder-nd.org.  Reservations for the hotel are made through our center when stipends are provided. Otherwise you can contact the hotel at Best Western Doublewood Inn & Conference Center – Fargo through their website (http://www.doublewoodinn.com/fdw_amenities.html) or by phone (1.800.433.3235). The hotel is located at 3333 13th Avenue South, Fargo, ND 58103.

Info for Minot Parents About Schools & Flooding PDF Print E-mail

The Office of the Minot Public Schools Superintendent has posted some information on their site concerning the flooding and how it effects all parents of K-12 children in the district. They are trying to obtain current information about the families of their students. They would like to know if families have been displaced by the flood or not, and would like to obtain current cell phone numbers so we contact parents by text messages since many are without Internet access. Bullying is a Serious Problem

Bullying can happen anywhere: face-to-face, by text messages or on the web. It is not limited by age, gender, or education level. It is not a phase and it is not a joke. Bullying can cause lasting harm.

The Power of Stories

It may not be news that our expectations, experiences, and preconceptions shape our world. What is news is that how we imagine ourselves acting during a particular interaction may make it more likely we’ll act in exactly that way.
